Hi all--

I know it has been said on this forum before that the manual is incorrect about the amount of oil required for an oil change. Today, I set out to find out what *exactly* it should be.

I went to the extent of pulling out an old graduated cylinder (see, that microbiology degree didn't go to waste after all), and I discovered that my Savage required 68 oz. (US) to bring it up to the full mark with a new filter. That's 2-quarts plus 4 ounces. Whether or not you replace the filter (highly recommended), it should be the same. I found that the filter compartment had only a trace of oil in it.

If my conversion factors are sound, that works out to 2.007 liters or 1.77 Imperial quarts.

Happy motoring, and ride safe. (I just heard that 17 bikers were killed at this years Daytona Bike week, and that there was a 30-bike pile-up on I-4.)
